All eyes will be on Roberto Firmino at Melwood today as he attempts to prove his fitness ahead of Liverpool’s crucial trip to the Etihad.
The Brazilian has been struggling with a knock and missed the 2-1 Anfield victory over Burnley.
Replacement Divock Origo was involved in both goals but still looked far from his best. Even worse, he hasn’t been well this week and Liverpool are giving him plenty of recovery time in the hope he can make the trip to Manchester.
He appeared to take part in training on Friday night which hopefully suggests he might be available for a trip made even moire significant by the Saturday defeat of Arsenal at West Bromwich Albion.
Klopp said on Friday: “Roberto Firmino hasn’t trained with the team so far, but should probably be involved today or tomorrow so could be an option.
“The icing on the cake is Divock Origi, who was off yesterday because he felt a little bit ill, it’s not serious but in our situation we have to be really sensitive.”
Fingers will be crossed and nails nibbled as Klopp sweats on the fitness of his centre forwards - but what if a worst case scenario emerges?
No Firmino. No Origi? Sturridge still out. Ings gone for the season.
What next?
Here’s three options the Reds boss could turn to at the Etihad :
Mane central, Lallana on the right

Sadio Mane is Liverpool’s top scorer and right now favourite for the club’s player of the year award.
All his 12 goals have come in the Premier League and much of his best work has come when he moves infield.
That means there should be little concern about playing the winger more centrally at the Etihad, a position where his pace will be just as valuable as on the right.
The void on the right could be filled by Lallana moving forward with Lucas coming in to play the holding midfield role.
Yes you lose some of Lallana’s midfield impact but needs must in this situation.
Mane central, Coutinho on the right, Woodburn left

We’ve made the case for playing Mane centrally while Coutinho’s form for Brazil improved when he was played on the right in more recent games.
He looks like he needs something to happen to try to get his form back from before his injury.
Woodburn replaced the out-of-sorts Coutinho against Burnley for the last half an hour and doesn’t look out of place on the big stage.
It’s a big ask for Woodburn at 17 but he generally rises to the occasion and he normally plays on the left of a front three for the U23s. It might just be his week after his full Welsh call-up!
He’s not the quickest, which could hit the speed of Liverpool’s break, but none of these solutions will be perfect and in this scenario the midfield three of Can/Wijnaldum/Lallana stays intact.
Mane central, Milner moves forward

There would be a delicious irony if James Milner was forced into a wide attacking position against Man City.
Yes, that’s the same Man City he left seeking to switch his wide role to a central midfield one, though that proved fairly short-lived at Anfield.
He was of course also seeking more regular football as well and there can be no denying he’s found that with the Reds, albeit now firmly established at left-back.
Milner always delivers a solid performance wherever asked and the switch to the right would stop the need for him to constantly cut back on his right foot when playing on the left.
And at left-back if he does move? Well there’s Alberto Moreno or a switch for Nathaniel Clyne, with Trent Alexander-Arnold filling in at the right back position.

Woodburn centre forward

Would be the biggest gamble of all. He has played there plenty of times before of course and his eye for goal is certainly not to be under-estimated.
But it's asking a lot of one so inexperienced to lead the line when there's one Sergio Aguero doing the same at the other end.
Hopefully, a fit Firmino means none of the above will be required and the Brazilian can be involved in the sort of Reds display which so thrilled fans at the Etihad last year.

What time is kick-off?
Well even in this world of bizarre TV kick-off times, 4.30pm on a Sunday is a bit random.
It all comes down to the involvement of Manchester United in the Europa League and therefore the chance to have three live TV games on a Sunday.
How can I watch it?
If you're after a ticket Liverpool's allocation of 2,998 stand tickets are all gone as you'd expect.
So that leaves you with the TV.
The two previous games build up to the biggest game of the day starting at 4.30pm.
Sky pundit Jamie Carragher
Mourinho's men travel to Middlesbrough at noon live on BT Sport 1 while Spurs will take on Southampton at White Hart Lane at 2.30pm live on Sky Sports 1.
The Reds will be live on Sky Sports 1, so at least there's the chance of some Carra.
Match of the Day 2 will be at 10.30pm on BB1 hosted by Mark Chapman.
Who is the referee?

It's Michael Oliver. Jose Mourinho's favourite. And he'll be hoping for a rather quieter match than that at Stamford Bridge on Monday as he sent off United's Ander Herrera in the FA Cup against Chelsea.
He's been a pretty good omen for Liverpool though.
Oliver has refereed six Reds matches already this season with Jurgen Klopp’s side winning four, drawing one and losing one.
He oversaw their victories over Arsenal (4-3), Swansea (2-1), Watford (6-1) and Stoke (4-1), as well as their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and 3-1 defeat away to Leicester City.
Who should I look out for in the Man City team?

We could mention Raheem Sterling but we have a feeling you'll have your eye on him already.
Sergio Aguero has scored in his last four Etihad appearances against Liverpool so he will be a big threat, even if Pep Guardiola seems intent on moving him on in the summer.
Kevin De Bruyne is a fabulous footballer, while David Silva is all that and more if he's given the space to play.

Pep Guardiola is generally regarded as the connoisseurs' football manager.
He created everybody's favourite football team at Barcelona winning 14 trophies in four years including three La Ligas and two Champions Leagues.
After a break he was back with Bayern Munich to mop up three Bundesliga titles and two German Cups in his three years. He's in his first season at Man City.
The pair met eight times in German football and once in the Premier League so far. Klopp leads the head to head with five victories to four.

Well Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of both Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi although both have trained this week so the signs are pretty good.
Jordan Henderson remains on the sidelines as does Daniel Sturridge. Dejan Lovren played 75 minutes for the U23s on Monday and is fit.
For City, Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan are still out injured while Vincent Kompany is fit again but unlikely to start.
What happened the last time the sides met?

How could you forget? The New Year's Eve game which started many a row in households across Merseyside.
Gini Wijnaldum's header was the difference as Liverpool emerged 1-0 winners from a game which was perhaps the most intensive Klopp's men have been involved in this year. Even most people watching were exhausted.
That win left Liverpool in second place in the Premier League, six points adrift, but still with high hopes of mounting a title challenge.
Then January happened.

The Reds have won each of the last four league meetings, scoring 10 goals in the process. They are on their best league run against City for more than 35 years.
James Milner played in 147 league games for City netting 13 times. In all competitions he scored 18 goals in 203 appearances for the Citizens.
Emre Can made his Liverpool debut in this fixture in August 2014.
The Reds have only lost one of 17 clashes with the other 'big six' clubs since Jurgen Klopp took over in October 2015 and they have yet to suffer defeat away from Anfield in that sequence.
What should I be betting on?

This game has produced nine draws in the last 19 league meetings so it's tempting to look at the 14/5 available with Boyle Sports. Pep and Klopp haven't tended to get involved in draws though so maybe that's a red herring.
Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick against City for Southampton last year while Philippe Coutinho has scored five in six against City, the most he's managed against any other side.
Coutinho is a stand out 11/1 with Skybet for first goal while he can be backed at 3/1 for a goal anytime with ..
