Arsenal have been hit with a Football Association charge for allegedly beaching agent regulations over the signing of Calum Chambers.
Arsenal signed the defender from Southampton for £15 million last summer but the transfer has come under scrutiny from the governing body.
According to a report in the Daily Mail in February, “The surprising probe for a deal that went through with no problems from either Premier League club follows a complaint made to the FA by, it is believed, a disgruntled third party to the deal.
“Both clubs are aware the FA are looking into the transaction but do not know why. The negotiations were amicable and handled directly by Les Reed of Southampton and Arsenal’s Dick Law.”
Manager Arsene Wenger said after the issue arose: “Yes, I am very happy about his transfer. I made over 350 transfers since I am here. We have a lot of enquiries about them and we never had any problem.”

The FA issued a statement when confirming the charge on Friday.
“Arsenal have been charged for allegedly breaching The FA’s Football Agents Regulations,” it said. “The charge is in relation to the transfer of Calum Chambers from Southampton to Arsenal on 26 July 2014.
“Authorised agent Alan Middleton has also been charged for allegedly breaching The FA’s Football Agents Regulations in relation to the same transfer.
“Mr Middleton has until 17 June 2015 to respond to the charge. Arsenal have until 26 June 2015 after they requested more time to respond to the charge.”

He will be a revelation’ Wenger backs Brazilian to make big Arsenal impact
Arsene Wenger believes Brazilian defender Gabriel will be a “top player” for Arsenal next season.

The 24-year-old centre-back joined the Gunners from Villareal last January but was not given much playing time at the Emirates Stadium.
He made just six Premier League appearances, including four starts, as the partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny were preferred in the middle of the back four.
Gabriel played well, however, when he was given the chance. Wenger believes the Brazilian is set for big things at the club, along with a trio of other players who only featured sparingly last season.
“We bought well,” he told the club’s official website. “I believe Gabriel will be a revelation. I am convinced he will be a top player and we’ll see more of him next season.
“As well, I don’t like to forget players like Calum Chambers, who had a very good start to the season and who will come back to a very good level.
“We now have players back who were out for a year, like Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry. We have a big squad.”
The biggest surprise of Arsenal’s season was undoubtedly the emergence of Francis Coquelin.
Wenger has hailed the Frenchman, who went from afterthought to key player at the Emirates Stadium in the space of a month.
“He [Coquelin] is the most unexpected player who has made it from January onwards,” Wenger said. “I don’t think I exaggerate if I say that he convinced everybody. He has played a huge part and contributed very well.”
