Английский футбольный клуб планирует закрыть сделку по переходу хавбека «Шальке» Юлиана Дракслера к концу текущего дня.

Переговоры находятся в продвинутой стадии, и «канониры» рассчитывают завершить их к вечеру воскресенья - 26 января.

Arsenal officials will fly out to Germany at the start of this week to hold Julian Draxler talks with Schalke as they target two new signings from the Bundesliga, Goal can reveal.

The Premier League leaders will attempt to broker a deal for Schalke sensation Draxler in a bid to sign him before Friday’s transfer deadline, and they will also open negotiations with Frankfurt over a move for right-back Sebastian Jung.
Arsene Wenger values the forward at between £25 million and £30m but Schalke want the Gunners to meet the £37.2m release clause inserted in the five-year contract signed by the 20-year-old last summer.

Even if the two clubs can settle a fee, Goal has learned that Schalke want to land a replacement for Draxler, with Tottenham’s Lewis Holtby said to be high on their target list, before sanctioning the departure of their prize asset.

Goal exclusively revealed on January 11 that Arsenal were weighing up a January move for Draxler and that the club were confident he could be developed from a wide player into a centre-forward.

Wenger has been in the market for a "special" forward in the last three windows and stepped up his search this month following Theo Walcott's season-ending knee injury.

Preliminary discussions have taken place between Schalke and Arsenal, and the Gunners have also learned that Draxler is keen to move to the Emirates Stadium and follow in the footsteps of fellow German internationals Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski.

Speaking after Arsenal knocked Coventry out of the FA Cup on Friday night, Wenger claimed that the Gunners’ reported pursuit of Draxler was “an illusion” but, behind the scenes, progress has been made in capturing a player who has been coveted by a number of Premier League clubs.

Wenger has also been pursuing loan options this month as he keeps his attacking options open, and is believed to have lined up a short-term striker deal as back-up if Arsenal cannot agree a Draxler deal. If the Gunners cannot finalise a transfer for the forward before the window closes, they are expected to make another move in the summer.

Arsenal officials will also meet with their counterparts at Frankfurt in the coming days for talks about a move for Jung, 23.

The German is valued at £7m and has jumped to the top of the Gunners’ list of right-back targets as question marks remain over the future of Bacary Sagna. Arsenal could hold off until the summer for a formal move for Jung, but the immediacy of the talks suggests a bid may be imminent.

As revealed by Goal, the Frenchman’s representatives met with Arsenal earlier this month in a bid to broker a breakthrough in contract negotiations.

However, Sagna has yet to agree to remain at the Emirates. His contract expires in the summer and he has offers on the table from a number of leading Continental clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and Inter.

Yesterday's rumours that Sky Sports Germany had reported Arsenal might be willing to include Lukas Podolski in a trade for Draxler appear to have been greatly exaggerated, with Bundesliga expert about London town Raphael Honigstein having scotched them on Twitter.
Former Premier League striker-turned-Sky Sports Germany pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft also took to the social networking site to report that while Bayern Munich are almost certainly interested in signing Draxler, the player himself has been talking to Arsène Wenger. Should he move to north London, Lewis Holtby could move the other way, with Schalke believed to be interested in bringing the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder to Gelsenkirchen as a replacment for their pride and joy.

In news that will displease Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, Spanish TV station La Sexta report that Chelsea have already agreed a £31m deal with Atletico Madrid that will bring in-form goalscorer Diego Costa to Stamford Bridge next summer, while German newspaper Bild claims José Mourinho is also monitoring the progress of 22-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder Antoine Griezmann.

Wenger: Arsenal working hard to convince 'important' Sagna to stay
Arsene Wenger insists he has not given up hope of extending Bacary Sagna's contract after underlining the French defender's importance to Arsenal.

Sagna is currently free to talk to other clubs as his current deal expires in June.

The 30-year-old, who has been a key first-team regular since arriving at the Emirates from Auxerre in 2007, is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester City and a number of European sides.

However, Wenger says the club are working hard to ensure the full-back remains in north London.

The Gunners have been searching far and wide for reinforcements up front after Theo Walcott suffered a season-ending knee injury against Tottenham in the FA Cup.

Rodrigo, 22, has drastically improved at the Estádio da Luz this season and has drawn interest from Arsene Wenger as a result.

Arsenal had been tracking the Brazilian-born striker for a while, but looked set to miss out after Zenit St. Petersburg reportedly agreed a €30m fee with Benfica. However, Rodrigo had no intention of moving to Russia and only has eyes for one of Europe's major leagues.

Buoyed by the news, Arsenal officials made contact with the Portuguese outfit and are confident of agreeing a deal, with a figure of less than €30m thought to be enough.

Once Arsenal officials agree a deal, they'll report back to Wenger, who will give the green light on a transfer deal.

It is thought that Wenger will make a decision depending on the price and whether he believes he can sign other targets for less.

If the frugal Frenchman believes he can find better value elsewhere, a potential deal will be put on ice until the summer at least.

Schalke Director finally admits Draxler could leave

Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of Schalke youngster Julian Draxler might be leading to fruition after Schalke’s Sporting Director stated that a move for the 20 year old midfielder is still possible. The Metro reports that Horst Heldt, the man responsible for all the footballing decisions at the German club, has said, “I can’t exclude anything, I don’t know what other clubs are planning. I only know what happens in our club – and nothing happens at the moment, so we don’t bother with this. We are very calm with this thing.”

Draxler is currently out of action with an ankle injury, and it was feared that the attacking midfielder would not be fit for duty until March. The injury created a situation of confusion and at one stage, it was believed that Wenger had decided against signing an injured player, as Draxler was intended as a cover for the injured Theo Walcott. However, latest development points that Draxler might be back sooner than expected and thus, restarting his romance with the North London club.

Considering things from the perspective of Die Knappen, keeping an unfit and discontent Draxler might be considered unwise from a financial point of view, something which might be weighing on Heldt’s mind. Furthermore, it might be said with certainty that Draxler would move on to a bigger club, come the summer transfer window. By selling Draxler, Schalke have the opportunity to reinvest the amount in the ongoing transfer window.

Also, with the emergence of a couple of talented youths in the form of Max Meyers and Leon Goretzka coinciding with the return of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from injury and the signing of Sidney Sam from Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke manager Jens Keller would not be too sad to see Draxler go, especially after their player-manager relationship is scrutinized quite frequently by the media following the 20 year old’s comments, where Draxler expressed his unhappiness with the way he was being utilised in the team.

It would be an interesting last week of the transfer window for both Schalke and Arsenal, and keeping in mind that the 37 million pounds release clause will not come into play till the end of this season, Wenger has a lot of convincing to do, if he hopes to secure Draxler’s signature for 25 million pounds, which according to Le Professeur, should be the youngster’s value.
