Monaco boss Claudio Ranieri has blasted Nampalys Mendy for his decision to depart the club.

The 20-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best young talents in world football, has reportedly decided to leave the French outfit on a free transfer this summer.

"I do not understand his attitude. As soon as I saw him play, I said here is our Makelele. I trusted him and I played him," Ranieri told reporters at a press conference.

"I think he will miss out on a great deal. But it's his life, not mine. He has preferred to listen to his brother and agent and not his coach. It's a shame."

The holding midfielder has reportedly attracted the interest of Manchester United.

Nampalys Mendy (born 23 June 1992) is a French football player who currently plays for Monégasque club Monaco in Ligue 1.[1] He plays as a defensive midfielder and, due to his small stature, simple distribution, and reliable style of play, has been compared to former French international Claude Makélélé whom Monaco club scout Didier Christophe referred to Mendy as a "carbon copy" of.[2] Mendy is a French youth international having earned caps at under-17, under-18 level, and under-19 level. He played with the under-17 team at the 2009 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship.
