Premier League - Arsenal set to complete £23m Higuain deal - reports
Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly on the verge of sealing a £23 million move to Arsenal from Real Madrid.

The Argentine, 25, has been linked with a move from Real Madrid to Arsenal for several weeks, and a deal appears set to be concluded.

Higuain is understood to be preparing to sign a £100,000-a-week three-year deal with Arsenal, which would put him among the club's top earners.

Former player Jorge Higuain, the player's father, told Fox Sports Latin America: "We have permission to negotiate [with Arsenal] and I hope that soon I can resolve my child's move to the Premier League."

"Nothing has been signed yet," he added, "but I assure you that the negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage."

Arsenal are reportedly keen to pair Higuain up front with Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney should the Premier League champions agree to part with the England star.

French-born Higuain joined Real from River Plate in 2007, and has scored over 120 goals in six seasons. He announced his decision to leave after the final game of the season against Osasuna.

"It has been seven years at Real Madrid and I need a change," he said. "This is a decision that I have taken calmly, it is not a snap decision. No one has gifted me anything: I have always had to fight. I want to go where they show they really want me."

He has also hit 20 in 30 matches for Argentina and is widely regarded as one of the better finishers in European football.

Arsenal loan out Coquelin and Djourou


Arsenal have confirmed the departure of two players on season-long loan deals, with Johan Djourou and Francis Coquelin temporarily moving away from the Emirates Stadium.

Switzerland international Djourou, 26, has signed for Bundesliga side Hamburg after the defender spent the second half of last season at Hannover.

Meanwhile 22-year-old midfielder Coquelin will also move to Germany, with Freiburg taking the former France Under-21 international to the Mage Solar Stadion for the forthcoming campaign.

Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger has already allowed several players to leave at the expiration of their contracts, with the likes of Andrei Arshavin and Denilson moving on.

Goalkeeper Vito Mannone has also been sold to Barclays Premier League rivals Sunderland while former Auxerre forward Yaya Sanogo remains the only signing to date, with a deal for Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain still yet to come to fruition.

[offtopic]The English Press was filled with rumours this week that Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is interesting Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager is apparently keen on bringing the Spaniard to the Emirates to partner the soon to-be-announced Gonzalo Higuain up front.

Torres hasn't enjoyed the best of times at Chelsea. The £50 million pound forward is currently the most expensive player in Premier League history but endured a tough start to life at Stamford Bridge, although he scored 22 goals in 64 games for the Blues last season, although only eight of these were in the league, with only one of these being scored in 2012, against Everton on the last day of the season.

However, it's not a secret that
during his time at Liverpool, Fernando Torres was one of the best strikers in world football. If the story is true, Wenger must believe that he will be able to get the best out of Torres once again. Rafa Benitez was brought into Chelsea partly to get his fellow Spaniard firing on all cylinders.

If Wenger can get Torres' confidence sky-high, then Arsenal could potentially have a world class striker back in their side. The supply from Cazorla, Walcott and Podolski would give Torres plenty of chances to convert.

Also on Arsenal's side is Jose Mourinho's rumoured willingness to sell. If that is the case then £12 million could be enough for Wenger to pull Torres across London.[/offtopic]
