Arsenal confirm Wenger to sign new contract, announce Puma deal
Puma will become the kit supplier to Arsenal from July 1 in a deal worth over £30m a year, while Ivan Gazidis had more good news for fans.


Arsenal chief executive Gazidis said at the formal confirmation of the kit deal: "We are excited to be partnering with Puma, a company whose football heritage and record of innovation have a strong affinity with our own. This represents another important step forward in Arsenal's progression on and off the pitch."
When asked about the contract status of his manager, Gazidis gave Arsenal fans the news they wanted to hear and said: "Arsene will be extending with us and at the right time we will make that announcement."
Though Arsenal have not won a trophy in eight years, their form this season and the inspired capture of Mesut Ozil has led to renewed hope that another era of success under Wenger is forthcoming.
Puma is ousting US group Nike which has provided Arsenal's red and white shirts for the past two decades.
The agreement shows Puma's determination to re-establish itself as a core sports brand under new CEO Bjoern Gulden after moving more into lifestyle and fashion.
Puma has also acquired the rights to produce other branded Arsenal merchandise that will be sold to fans around the world.
Financial details were not disclosed but Puma said the deal was the biggest ever for both itself and Arsenal.
In 2012, Arsenal signed a contract renewal with airlines Emirates for shirt and stadium sponsorship worth £150m over five years.
Puma, which supplies kit to German club Borussia Dortmund and national teams including Italy, said it was aiming to establish itself as the clear number-three football brand.
Adidas and Nike dominate a global market worth an estimated 4.5 billion euros per year, and US brands such as Under Armour and Warrior have also been expanding in the sport.
"Arsenal represents a major commercial and marketing opportunity to reinforce Puma's credibility as a global sports brand," Gulden said in a statement.
The Puma deal is no surprise after news of it leaked on social media late last year. However, Arsenal fans are likely to press the club to spend heavily before the player transfer window closes at the end of the month to boost the team's push for a first trophy since 2005.
Nike remain the kit suppliers to Manchester United and Manchester City.

There are a lot of quality strikers available in the world who can fill the void left in Arsenal’s attacking front four. But this time of the season it is difficult to find any such striker. So basically if Gunners are to retain the first spot by the end of the season they’ll have to make sure they scout well and end up signing someone who can add goals and share the burden of scoring with Giroud.

Alfred Finnbogason may not have the big reputation that you may associate with a club at the top of the Premier League, nor does he have the experience of some of the names that have been mentioned with the Gunners, but he has scored a hatful of goals and has proved how creative he has been this season.

The Iceland international isn’t the quickest on his feet, but he has exceptional awareness when on the ball and can stretch a defence at will. It may be by playing the ball out to the wide areas or having a dig from range, but either way he can rip opposition backlines apart.

He is in remarkable form right now, having scored 21 goals in his 19 games for the Dutch side, and also being credited with five league assists.

He is a wonderfully creative player who would slot in nicely with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla, which is why I feel strongly about the move.

The Frenchman can leave on a free at the end of the season, and while Arsenal are still hopeful of agreeing new terms with the player, they have stepped up their search for a replacement by opening talks with Frankfurt for right-back Sebastian Jung.

Wenger’s backroom team have agreed new contracts that will mirror those of the manager and keep them at Arsenal until 2016, with Wenger is set to remain at the club for a 20th year, by which time he will be 66.

The fresh agreement will be on the same £7.5 million-a-year terms as his current contract. The club's longest-serving manager will not receive a pay rise but the deal will be supplemented by top-ups.

Mertesacker has 18 months remaining on his deal but Arsenal were keen to reward his fine form this season with an extension.

Rosicky, whose current one-year deal runs out in the summer, will also remain at Emirates Stadium after agreeing a 12-month extension. Under the terms of his current contract, he was due to be offered fresh terms once he reached the 25-match landmark this season.

The Czech midfielder, currently sidelined with a broken nose, is the club's fourth longest-serving player after Nicklas Bendtner, Abou Diaby and Theo Walcott

Arsenal ready to fight Juventus for €14m French winger


French newspaper La Parisien have suggested that Arsenal are keen on bringing Paris Saint Germain winger-cum-forward Jeremy Menez to the the Emirates and are willing to fight Juventus for his services.

Serie A giants Juventus were heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old, but it seems they could face a tough competition from the North London club.



Menez joined PSG in 2011, but has struggled to create a big impression, and this season, he has played a peripheral role only, managing five games thus far.

The Gunners have yet to sign any player in the winter transfer window though Arsene Wenger insisted they would only go for a top quality player, available in the market. Arsenal are also linked with a move for Schalke’s Julian Draxler but it seems like a deal in January is highly unlikely.

The league leaders are in desperate need of a quality striker, but Wenger feels that the club won’t get their first choice striker targets in January, hence the focus could shifted elsewhere.

Though it is clear how much the French giants could ask for Menez, but a bid around €14m would be enough to prise him away.
