Italian keeper Emiliano Viviano heading to Arsenal for a medical [Sky Italia]
Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who has had an impeccable summer transfer window and is quickly becoming one of the most trusted sources in Europe, has revealed that on Sunday afternoon that Arsenal are closing in on a new keeper.
Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has this Sunday left Sicily for London where he will undergo a medical at Arsenal.
According to Di Marzio, the deal is initially a loan move for Viviano who will be hoping to impress Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in the coming months. There will be an option to buy for the Gunners.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of keepers this summer to back up Wojciech Szczesny, including Julio Cesar and Vicente Guaita.
It would appear that Arsene Wenger has been put off Cesar due to his wage demands and refused to pay the asking price for Guaita.
Nevertheless, Viviano is a very accomplished keeper who spent last season on loan at Fiorentina and has represented Italy six times.

Arsenal Issued Ultimatum in Signing French Midfield Target
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has issued an ultimatum to Arsenal in their approach in signing the Magpies midfielder, Yohan Cabaye.
The Gunners had their first bid of £10m turned down by the Tyneside club and are believed to have made a second approach in bringing the French international to the Emirates in the final hours of the transfer window.
Pardew insisted the interested clubs needs to act quickly in their approach of signing Cabaye as they need to find replacements, should the midfielder decides to make a late move away from St James' Park.
"We've still got a question mark over Cabaye, and we will until 11pm on Monday night. We have replacements in mind, but whether we can get one of those over the line if Cabaye goes late, I'm not sure. It's something we've warned his agents about, that the deal won't happen if they leave it too late, and I think that's fair," Pardew explained.
Premier League - Paper Round: Mata to force Arsenal move?
Mata could force Arsenal move: Juan Mata will have to submit an official transfer request if he wants to push through a move to Arsenal before the transfer deadline on Monday night, reports the Sunday People. The Spaniard was arguably Chelsea’s best player last season, but has hardly featured under Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger has confirmed his interest in the 25-year-old. However Mourinho is not keen to sell Mata, which would be an unpopular move, leaving the player to insist on a £30m switch.
