Liverpool target Ryan Sessegnon is not expected to sign a professional deal with Fulham until June, despite celebrating his 17th birthday this month.
Sessegnon turned 17 on Thursday, with the left-back now eligible to sign professional terms with the Cottagers, after a breakthrough campaign in 2016/17.
Fulham missed out on promotion to the Premier League after falling to defeat to Reading in the play-off semi-finals, with Sessegnon playing just 32 minutes over both legs.
According to the Mail, though he is now able to sign a professional contract, Sessegnon is not expected to do so until next month.
Quite why is unclear, as putting pen to paper on new terms would increase his value ahead of the summer transfer window.
This delay, along with Sessegnon’s omission from Slavisa Jokanovic’s starting lineup in the play-offs, could suggest an issue between the two parties.
While he had not been a guaranteed starter throughout 2016/17, Sessegnon had certainly carved out a regular role, and proved himself one of Fulham’s most effective players.
He has been one of the Championship’s standout stars in 2016/17, and was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year at the end of April.
Fulham are said to be confident of retaining their best talent, but failing to secure promotion could leave Sessegnon open to a move.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be targeting both Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon and Hull City‘s Andrew Robertson to bolster Liverpool’s left-back ranks.
Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno is expected to leave the club this summer, with the 24-year-old likely to return to La Liga.
According to the Liverpool Echo, “a return to Spain is on the cards with Liverpool keen to recoup what they paid for him.”
Moreno joined the Reds from Sevilla in a £12 million deal in 2014, having established himself as one of the most promising left-backs in Spain.
His reputation has been damaged since moving to Merseyside, but he remains an attractive option in La Liga.
Reports in April suggested Liverpool had already fielded enquiries as to Moreno’s availability, with Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan all said to be interested.
Atletico left-back Theo Hernandez has been linked with a number of clubs during his impressive season on loan with Alaves, and it could be Moreno is drafted in to replace the high-value 19-year-old.
Liverpool have turned down a bid from Celtic for youngster Harry Wilson, with former manager Brendan Rodgers keen on taking him north to the Scottish champions.
The report, written by the Liverpool Echo‘s James Pearce, claims that Jurgen Klopp “sees the 20-year-old as being part of his plans for the 2017/18 campaign.”
Championship outfit Burton Albion are reported to be preparing a season-long loan bid for Liverpool U23s captain Harry Wilson this summer.
Liverpool are said to be running the rule over 17-year-old Dutch centre-back Perr Schuurs at Kirkby this month ahead of a possible summer move.
