It certainly wasn't Philippe Coutinho's day against Burnley but the trip to Manchester City is just the kind of test that can inspire him to rise to the occasion.
One thing is for sure, Coutinho is a special, talented player who can make the difference in the final third.
However, since his return from injury he hasn't recreated his early season form.
Burnley wasn't his type of game and the manager took him off early but you know when out there he's capable of something.
He can still put a little bit of doubt in the opposition and do that to Manchester City on Sunday.
They know that Coutinho turns up in big games – certainly against City he has done – and they'll be well aware of his threat.
The form that Liverpool have shown against the top sides this season has been very impressive.
City are another team that like to play out from the back and that will hopefully suit us.
If we press high the way we have done in those games against the top teams, it will encourage us that we'll create chances.
City as an attacking force have some very exciting players themselves who are capable of blowing teams away.
We have to be mindful of that but I'm encouraged that there will be opportunities for Liverpool.
I remember though when we played them on New Year's Eve, everyone said: “It's going to be a great game with lots of goals and lots of chances” but it was really disappointing.
I think it will be a little bit more open than that but maybe not too much so.
When I look at City getting knocked out of the Champions League by Monaco I know that football players like to respond after a disappointment.
I wonder just what sort of response City will have after that? It's huge for them because they had a controlling lead from the first leg.
I believe if it was Jurgen Klopp he would get a big response from them but I just think Pep Guardiola is a bit different.
He hasn't really settled in to consistently showing us his team's qualities since he came to England and they've been unconvincing at times.
I think we go into the game with confidence. We go into the game following back-to-back wins for the first time this year and most of our key players are back fit.
While it will be tough, City are a good side, certainly at home where they've only been beaten by Chelsea, we'll be fresher and have had longer to prepare.
If we stay in the game the quality we have in the attacking areas could be the difference.
Ability to mix things up is good to have in the locker
Beating Burnley wasn't as entertaining as the victories over Tottenham and Arsenal but it was just as vital because it was Liverpool winning ugly.
We know that Burnley make it difficult but the important thing was they had something to hold on to early when they got themselves in front.
We were frustrated and we didn't create a lot in that first half and the equalising goal just before half-time was crucial.
Gini Wijnaldum has done that really well, getting forward from midfield and giving us extra players in the penalty area.

The second half was better, even though we didn't create a lot of clear-cut opportunities.
However, if we want to succeed this season and get into the Champions League, we have to find a way to win games.
It wasn't sparkling but it was effective.
When you're playing games like that it's disappointing and frustrating but we got the win which was a huge relief.
Burnley are very well-organised and they get back into position and know exactly what's expected of them.
They're organised and disciplined and will say 'come and break us down.'
We got our goals from a cross into the penalty area and a long-range shot – things that Liverpool haven't really been renowned for.
It's good to have that in the locker and be able to mix things up.

Jurgen Klopp believes “perfect” Philippe Coutinho is ready to unleash his best for Liverpool on Manchester City on Sunday.
Coutinho has struggled for consistent form since returning in January from an ankle injury that sidelined him for more than six weeks.
It was underlined when the Brazilian followed an impressive display in the win over Arsenal with a poor outing that led to his second-half substitution in last week’s triumph over Burnley.
Klopp admits such fortunes are to be expected after such a long spell out, but reveals Coutinho has been catching the eye in training ahead of Sunday’s visit to the Etihad.
“That’s the life of an outstanding footballer,” said the Reds boss when pondering the recent criticism of the 24-year-old.
“He has the ability to influence a game, it’s really big.
“If he is not at 100% then you miss something. That’s how it is.
“Two weeks ago, we played Arsenal and he did really. Burnley wasn’t his best game, but that’s pretty normal after a long injury, this consistency.
“He has been perfect in training this week. It was fluid, confident, he looked really well.
“There are always steps in this direction, and it’s about consistency at the moment. He is in a really good way.”
